Short Stop Adopts Gilbarco Veeder-Root's Passport POS Solution
The 60-location chain chose Passport for enhanced functionality.
GREENSBORO, NC-January 11, 2005 - Short Stop Food Marts has
begun the process of moving its stores to the latest generation of POS
technology. Short Stop installed its first Gilbarco Veeder-Root
Passport system in late 2004, with plans to add more of the
state-of-the-art POS systems over time. "As the major oil brands
require us to replace old POS technology," said Short Stop CEO Don
Gill, "we need to stay ahead of the curve by incorporating new
functionality that will improve the bottom line. That's why we chose
Passport."
The privately held chain, headquartered in Fayetteville, North
Carolina, will use the new POS system to "do a lot more than control
gas pumps and process credit cards," said Gill. The ease of scanning,
improved compliance features for alcohol and cigarette sales that
reduce the chances for violations, and the touch screen that decreases
transaction time, are all features that Gill expects to translate to
improved profits.
Gilbarco distributor Meco of Florence, South Carolina performed the
installation and training of all key personnel in less than a day.
"With Meco's support and Gilbarco Veeder-Root's service and
engineering, transitioning to Passport will be easy," said Gill.
Passport has achieved broad network approval, with availability on
Citgo, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, ADS-Chicago and ADS-Dallas networks
already in place. Availability is expected soon for Shell, BPAmoco,
Sunoco and several generic networks. Passport brings retailers an
easy-to-use, easy-to-train and economical entry to touch screen
technology. Along with its wide array of network approvals, Passport is
the most cost-effective upgrade for G-SITE point of sale systems.
