Gilbarco Veeder-Root brings direct payment to car wash entrance
<b>System adds convenience for consumers; value and easy transaction processing for retailer</b></p>
<p>Greensboro, NC, USA - May 7, 2002 - Gilbarco Inc., a

supplier of dispenser, point-of sale, back office software systems, and
servGreensboro, NC - June 6, 2002 - Consumers can now use credit, debit
and transponder technologies to pay for a car wash without having to
fill up for gas or go inside the store thanks to new technology
developed by Gilbarco and successfully tested at Propst Bros.
Exxon-branded sites in Concord, N.C.</p>
<p>The automated payment system allows consumers to pay at the
car wash entrance with credit, debit, gas card, transponder, or cash by
using CRIND® (Card Reader in Dispenser) and RFID (Radio Frequency
Identification) technology. Coupled with Gilbarco's G-SITE®
point-of-sale system, the payment solution does not require separate
credit card accreditation because it uses the same transaction
processing networks already running through G-SITE.</P>
<p>"This represents the kind of solution we pride ourselves in
developing for our customers. It adds convenience for the consumer and
value for the retailer," said David Kaehler, president of Gilbarco
Americas. "By using the system with G-SITE, this technology adds
convenience for the retailer because credit card processing has already
been established. The major oil brand's marketing programs can also be
offered at the car wash, the same as at the fueling islands. There is
no hassle for the retailer, just a better way for them to serve their
customers."</p>
<p>The system was developed as an easy-to-use solution for
retailers who want to integrate their car wash profit center with the
rest of their site's operations while also increasing the value of the
car wash itself. Because G-SITE controls the system, car wash sales are
consolidated with the entire site, providing car wash sales reports
with off-site reporting to the back office and home office.</p>
<P>"It has always been our top priority to make it easier and
more convenient for our customers when they visit our stores," said
Trent Propst, president of Propst Bros. Dist. Inc., which owns the two
stores in Concord and the first to roll out the system in North
Carolina. "This system also provided us an opportunity to further
develop an increasingly profitable revenue stream."</P>
