Gilbarco Veeder-Root's Contactless Card Option Completes MasterCard PayPass Approval

Gilbarco Veeder-Root's Contactless Card Option has obtained approval from MasterCard that it complies with the MasterCard® PayPass™ specifications.

Greensboro, NC USA - June 09, 2005 - Gilbarco Veeder-Root's Contactless Card Option has obtained approval from MasterCard that it complies with the Master Card® PayPass™ specifications. Gilbarco Veeder-Root is the first manufacturer of retail fueling equipment to obtain this approval.

The Gilbarco Veeder-Root™ product enables gas pumps equipped with CRIND™ Card Reader In Dispenser to read MasterCard® PayPass™ contactless cards. The Gilbarco Contactless Card Option is available as a factory-installed option or retrofit kit for current production models Encore™ and Eclipse™ and as a retrofit kit for The Advantage® series dispensers. The product was installed at 3100 fueling positions at more than 300 convenience stores this Spring as part of the retail petroleum industry's first chain-wide deployment for Sheetz, Inc. of Altoona, Pa.Sheetz is one of the fastest growing family owned and operated convenience store chains in the US, with stores in Pennsylvania,West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina.

Using MasterCard PayPass cards, consumers are able to pay for purchases at the dispenser by simply tapping their card on, or holding their card near the a specially equipped terminal to complete a payment transaction. This eliminates the need for customers to hand over their payment card to a store employee, manually swipe it through a reader, or fumble for cash and coins.

The Gilbarco Veeder-Root Contactless Card system was tested at FIME of Caen, France. FIME verified the Gilbarco product for digital, analog and application compliance with MasterCard PayPass specifications.

Obtaining approvals is a requirement of MasterCard, who license their applications to solution providers and users.
