Gilbarco Introduces Industry's First Alternative Fuel Blending Dispensers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gilbarco introduces industry’s first alternative fuel blending dispensers

GREENSBORO, NC – February 20, 2008 – Gilbarco introduces the industry’s first alternative fuel blending dispensers. Designed to blend ethanol or biodiesel with standard fuels, the new 3+1 and 3+0 blenders have Weights & Measures approvals. The alternative fuel blenders are part of the Gilbarco® Encore® S product line, which includes the industry’s most comprehensive selection of dispensers for alternative fuels. With access to cost effective supplies of alternative fuel feedstock, this product provides customers the ability to add flexibility to their operation while improving site profitability and helping the environment.

“Retailers can benefit from ethanol blending tax credits and obtain a competitive advantage from cost-effective sources of ethanol blends,” said Rob Bondos, Encore Marketing Manager at Gilbarco Veeder-Root. “In addition, retailers can capture the patronage of consumers who are early users of alternative fuels. Each new E85 vehicle increases E85 demand by four gallons per month.”

“I can cut out about 30 cents a gallon in transportation and handling costs by buying straight ethanol direct from local producers,” said Phil Younger, alternative fuels marketing director for Renew E85, LLC in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. “And I can offer consumers three or more blended grades with an investment in only two underground tanks.” Renew E85 operates 13 unattended consumer fueling sites in eastern Wisconsin.

“The new ethanol blenders are going to provide opportunities for more retailers to sell alternative fuels,” said Brian Beggs of Walt’s Petroleum Service in Schofield, Wisconsin. “Greater availability will also make it easier and more convenient for consumers to find and use ethanol.”

There are currently no U.L.-approved alternative fuel dispensers on the market. Gilbarco is in the process of obtaining U.L. approval for up to E85 and will submit for approval of biodiesel when a U.L. specification is issued.
