Enables both credit and debit EMV payment acceptance inside the convenience store for enhanced security and a consistent payment experience
GREENSBORO, N.C. – May 12, 2016- Gilbarco Veeder-Root has announced general availability of its EMV certified platform with the Passport Point-of-Sale (POS) for retailers utilizing either the First Data (NYSE: FDC) or HPS (NYSE: HPY) Dallas network. EMV availability on the First Data network will allow the majority of petroleum retail brands including ExxonMobil, Sunoco, Valero, Clark, and Gulf to be among the first petroleum retailers to accept EMV transactions. Also included in this group are retailers processing on the HPS-Dallas network, representing brands such as CITGO, and Marathon.
Gilbarco’s Passport POS solution is the first petroleum POS to provide general availability of software supporting both EMV Credit and Debit transactions. Support of multiple common payment types reduces consumer confusion around inserting vs. swiping their card at the payment terminal. Multi-EMV card format support ensures that all EMV-capable cards are processed as a chip payment, reducing consumer ambiguity and increasing consumer satisfaction, while maximizing the retailer’s protection against fraud and liability. In addition, releasing credit and debit support of EMV in a single, easy to deploy software update for the Passport POS minimizes retailer downtime.

Current Gilbarco customers can work with their Gilbarco Distributor or Authorized Service Contractor to obtain the software update applicable to their retail environment. Gilbarco is additionally on the forefront of obtaining EMV support for the remaining Petroleum payment networks, as well as EMV support for Gilbarco Forecourt offerings.
