The 2016 National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) trade show was recently held in Atlanta, Georgia at the World Convention Center.  The facility was the perfect size to house a record breaking number of attendees (more than 23,000) and over 1,200 exhibitors. When entering the trade show floor, high ceilings held large, heavy signs to accentuate each booth name. One side of the massive hall had different colored lights flaring to the beat of electronic music streaming from the energy drink and beer booths. The other side was quieter but filled with interesting and new technology....

Making the decision to upgrade your dispensers is no small task. Not only do you have to search for the best quality, you also have to keep budgets in mind. Putting aside obvious reasons why any c-store should upgrade dispensers (e.g., broken equipment, old systems, slow flow rates, not EMV-compliant equipment), now there are four new reasons why every c-store should order today immediately.

American c-store owners just received another big reminder to regularly monitor underground storage tanks (USTs) containing diesel fuel. After extensive testing,...

We are in a new age. Paper, though not obsolete, is being used less for daily tasks. Where once we printed menus, now we can instantly update our digital menu boards from a back office. Where once we wrote in the candidate of our choice on ballets, we now touch screen our choice into a system. We used to handle only cash and checks and now we pay bills through our mobile devices.

Technology as we all know, has changed every aspect of our lives.

While more c-store owners upgrade to EMV payment terminals, certification delays have become a significant hurdle to accepting chip cards.

As a refresher, following the October 2015 liability shift, any c-store owner, retailer, or merchant not using a chip card POS terminal is now liable for any in-store fraud. That covers any...

Although the Ultra-low Sulphur diesel is better for the environment, like anything organic, there are dependent organisms that can arise from it. When it comes to diesel fuel, humbugs are that organism.

So what are humbugs? They are Hydrocarbon Utilizing Microorganisms (HUM) that feed off the hydrocarbons in the fuel, rubber gaskets, o-rings, hoses, and etc. Their waste is an acid that corrodes piping, fittings, and check valves in the fuel system at your site. Once you have HUM bugs infiltrating your system, the corrosion soon erodes the meter and causes a faster degradation of...

Security, chips, EMV. These are the words you hear tossed around when it comes to payment. Sometimes, instead of helping to solve the question of how merchants can keep customers safe from fraud, these words can prompt more questions and homework. What is the most economical system? Do I really need to be EMV compliant? What is the best way to keep my c-store skimming-proof? Will chip cards really make a...
